When an article is not immediately available in print or digitally at the UW Libraries, patrons can request the article through the interlibrary loan (ILL) service. This service is called "Request It." Click this link to go to the log-on page.
Request can be submitted 24/7, but the requests are only processed during business days (Monday thru Friday, 8 to 5). Requests can usually be made directly from a search of a bibliographic database (e.g., ProQuest Central) using the Find@UW or Request It button. When requests made in this way, the bibliographic data is automatically added to the on-line request form.
Normally, it take two business days for a request to be completed. Requests for obscure journals can take longer. Articles are scanned into a pdf and returned to the UW ILL office. The files are then uploaded to Request It.
Patrons receive a notification in their UW email that the article is available. To retrieve the article, the patron must log onto their Request It account and download the article. Articles are automatically deleted after 30 days, so ensure that an article is downloaded off the server if it may be needed in the future.
Note: Request It is only available to UW students, faculty, and staff. There is no cost to these patrons. Unfortunately, public patrons of the UW Libraries cannot use the UW Request It service. The alternative is to use the ILL service offered by the local public library.
