The American Heritage Center (AHC) is the archives and repository for the University of Wyoming. It also holds many manuscripts, rare books, and donated papers. It is a separate organization from the UW Libraries, although faculty and staff often collaborate on projects and share information.
Patrons frequently contact the library about historical material. Sometimes the material is available in the Emmett Chisum Special Collections, but most of the time the material is held by the American Heritage Center (AHC). This misunderstanding usually results from the fact that the UW Libraries list the holdings of the AHC in our catalog.
The UW Libraries catalog may be searched specifically for AHC holdings by choosing the "American Heritage Center" as the filter in the "Search scope" box.
The UW webpage for the AHC is at this link. Contact information is located at the bottom of the left hand menu.
This page on the AHC website describes how to conduct research. Links to their policies and their research request form is on that page.
