With so many choices of genres and authors, it is difficult for librarians to direct readers to certain books without having a discussion with the patron. We do have some recommendations on identifying possible authors or books for those patrons who are willing to do a little research on their own.
First, our popular reading collection is located on Level 2 of Coe Library. That is an excellent place to browse to see which books covers or titles grab one's attention.
Book covers may also be browsed on-line through this link: http://www-lib.uwyo.edu/find/new/popular.cfm DVDs and young adult title may also be browsed from that webpage by clicking on the "View Other Subjects" button.
There are databases available that provide information about books by author, subject, genre, and so on. These are subscription databases that must be accessed from a UW computer or by logging in through the off-campus proxy server. These databases are:
The GoodReads website is another excellent choice to discover book recommendations. Book review publications such as New York Times Book Review, the Los Angeles Review of Books, and The Times Literary Supplement are other options for locating book recommendations and reading reviews of books. The preceding links are to the "free" commercial website for these publications. These publications are available as print editions in our journal area on Level 1 of Coe Library, as well as online as full-text with unlimited access to UW-affiliated patrons (students, faculty, and staff) through the following links:
- New York Times Book Review
- Los Angeles Review of Books (no print edition)
- The Times Literary Supplement
Finally, the Library Literature and Information Science Index (H.W. Wilson) database allows access to professional (scholarly) and popular publications and articles. This database is only available to UW-affiliated patrons.
