Prospector is a multi-library service that allows UW students, faculty and staff to borrow books, videos, audio CDs, and other materials from participating libraries under common loan rules. You access the service by clicking on the Prospector button located on the "Services" section and webpage, or clicking the icon located on catalog search results or an individual catalog entry.
Through Prospector you can search for an item that you can't get at UW either because the item is checked out or not in our collection. All UW Library catalog entries have a Prospector icon located in the "Options" box that is located under the Location/Call Number/Status section of the entry. Click on that icon to automatically search for the item without having to re-enter search terms.
If a Prospector library has the item, request the item by clicking on "Request this Item." Log on with your WyoOne username and password. You will receive notification through your UW email address that the item has arrived, which usually takes 2 to 4 business days. You can also track your request through My Accounts. You have seven days to pick up the item after notification. If you cannot pick up the item in that time frame, call the Coe Circulation Desk at 766-3190 to arrange for the item to be held for up to two weeks total.
Each participating library may mark some materials as not available for loan and agree to the following loan rules:
- Books: 3-week loans, with one renewal
- Videos: 1 week loan, with no renewals
- Audio CDs: split by participating libraries into the 3-week or 1-week loan periods.
Authorized users may check out up to 40 items at a time.
