Comparative analysis reports tend to be prohibitively expensive, so the library normally does not buy or subscribe to such databases (for example, those from Risk Management Associates (RMA)). However, we do have some excellent resources with industry information. The difference is you have to do some of the analysis yourself, but there are some good tools for that. It's usually a good idea to look at a couple of the resources because they may focus on a different aspect of the industry.
The business research library guide is a good place to start: It has links to the databases mentioned below.
There are numerous databases specifically for the business-related academic fields. To access the database listing from the main library webpage, click on the orange icon labeled "Databases." On the databases page, click on the "Business" subject heading, then on the appropriate subheading.
In most of these databases you can search by industry names, industry codes, company names, or stock abbreviations. Business Insights has both market reports and industry surveys, but they're fairly brief. Mergent Online, ValueLine Investment Survey, and Standard & Poor's NetAdvantage have more robust data. Each database is a little different, but you can compile reports and download them along with financial data. You'll find these three linked under the Company Information tab on the business library guide. In addition to company information, these databases also provide industry data.
