Numerous newspapers have been published in Laramie since its founding. Be aware that not all issues of newspapers are available. Some papers were carefully preserved and bound; others were saved as microfilm. Some papers have both microfilm and print copies. However, some papers are lost to history. To see what newspapers are available, the best starting point for locating information is to do a subject search of the UW Libraries catalog.

From the main UW Library webpage, click on the blue "Catalog" icon on white "FIND" section of the page. When the catalog webpage appears, select "Subject" in section 1. Leave section 2, "Search scope," set to "All libraries @ UW." Type in (or copy and paste) one of the following into the search box (section 3):

Laramie (Wyo.) -- Newspapers

Albany County (Wyo.) -- Newspapers.

Press "Search." There will be over 50 records. You can sort the records by date, title, publisher, and so forth. Once you see the publication you want, click the link to view the record.

For the current issue of the Boomerang and the previous two months, go to the newspaper section on Level 1 of Coe Library. For the previous 18 months to two years, ask at the Help Desk on Level 2 of Coe. These newspapers may only be used in the library. Here is the link to the catalog entry for the current Boomerang, which contains more information on available dates.

For years before what is available as described in the previous paragraph, most of the issues of the Boomerang and other Laramie newspapers are on microfilm. This finding guide describes what is available in the UW Libraries collection. This library guide on newspapers may be useful as well.

Review the finding guide or catalog entry to see which dates are in the collection, available format (print, microfilm, both),  and where the publications are stored. Old print newspapers are generally in the Emmett Chisum Special Collection room on Level 3 of Coe Library. Recent issues are available in the journal area of Level 1 or the Circulation Desk on Level 2. Microfilm is located on Level 1 of Coe Library. Here are links to the library guides for these two areas:

In addition to the newspapers located at Coe, the Wyoming State Library has an on-going digitization project of old Wyoming newspapers: Wyoming Newspapers. There are many newspapers located on this website, but it is far from complete. However, new material is constantly being added. You can search by newspaper, year, county, and city. There are a few issues of old Laramie and Albany County newspapers available.
