This procedure will help you locate a specific issue of The New York Times

On the main UW Libraries web page, click on the "Databases A-Z" tab above the "QuickSearch" box. On the following web page, a subject listing will appear. Locate and select the "News and Newspapers" link. The next page that appears will have "U.S. Newsstream" listed at the very top under "Librarian's Picks'." Click this link.

When the ProQuest Newsstream web page loads, click on the three bars icon at the top left side of the page and select "Publications."

You can locate The New York Times in two ways. One is to use the A-Z listing of publications by clicking on "N" and searching the list. You will want to select "New York Times Late Edition (East Coast). The other way is to type "new york times" (including the quotation marks) in the search box. Click "Search" or press enter. Choose the same edition of the NYT as mentioned (Note that other publications by the New York Times Company are provided in the search results: The New York Times Book ReviewThe New York Times Magazine, and the New York Times International Edition. These may be useful for research).

To locate a specific issue of the NYT, enter the date in the "Choose an issue to view" boxes and press "Enter." Use the "Search within this issue" search box to find articles on a topic within the issue.

Additional Information

Issues of the NYT in ProQuest Newsstream currently go back to January 1980. For issues of this newspaper before that date, other databases and collections provide access to those issues. Some of the databases for this newspaper go back to 1857. Click this link to search the UW Libraries catalog for The New York Times. Click on the appropriate link to access the year(s) that are desired.

(Note: Searches for other newspapers (e.g., the Los Angeles Times) will yield similar results for specific issues.)
