The best place to check the status is by logging into the ProQuest account you created when you uploaded your thesis or dissertation. The following information may be of use to graduate students at UW.

This link is to the UW Registrar's webpage of documents for graduate students. On this webpage the forms required for graduation and publishing your thesis or dissertation are available. If you have specific questions, the first person you should ask is your graduate advisor or chair. If that person does not have the answer, he or she will be able to refer you to the appropriate source.

This link will take you to the ProQuest upload site. Additional instructions specific to UW publishing requirements are available on this site. This is the primary website you will need to use to upload your finished thesis or dissertation, as well as contact the publisher (ProQuest/UMI). You will need to establish an account with ProQuest to upload your work, order copies, and specify copyright information.

Once you have established an account with ProQuest and submitted your thesis, staff within the UW Registrar's office will check your document for proper formatting. They do not check spelling, punctuation, or content. If there are problems with your formatting, your thesis or dissertation the UW Registrar's office will contact you to make the corrections. If there are no problems, you will be notified of the approval and your thesis will be sent to the publisher.

Once your document arrives at ProQuest, they finish the publishing process by assigning a unique number and other cataloging information. When this process is complete you will receive an email to the permanent email you provided ProQuest when you established your account. If there are problems with your document, they will also contact you. ProQuest will send you an email from once your document has been fully accepted. This process may take up to six months, so please be patient. If you are concerned about your document, log onto your ProQuest account and contact the customer support office.

Finally, once ProQuest has published your document, that information is included in the ProQuest Dissertations and Theses databases. This only will occur if you agreed to publish your work in the database and did not embargo your work.

Please be aware that UW Libraries are not involved in the process of publishing theses or dissertations with ProQuest. While we do have databases that contain links to the theses and dissertations published at UW (and across the globe), the library does not monitor the status of publication.
