Most databases have a separate Peer Review filter check box below the search box. Below are a few examples.

Psychology

A great resource for locating peer-reviewed articles in psychology is the ProQuest One Psychology database. Opening ProQuest One Psychology defaults to the basic search, which includes a box you can mark to limit to Peer Reviewed journals. Type in several keywords that describe your topic, then click the search button. To get to the actual articles, click the UW Libraries icon.

Note that not all articles in peer-reviewed journals are peer-reviewed. Letters to the editor and opinion pieces do not typically go through the peer review process.

ProQuest One Psychology also allows you to limit searches to specific kinds of research methodology: empirical studies, meta analyses, systematic reviews, and so forth. Scroll down the page in the advanced search and watch for the methodology section.

Education

We recommend the ERIC database and Education Source for peer-reviewed articles in education. These databases allow you to mark a box to limit your search to peer-reviewed or scholarly articles.

Additional Information

There are several education research guides that may be helpful.  If you can't find what you are looking for within twenty minutes, ask a librarian!
